Plants to Repel Pests

Some flowers and plants are recommended by experts to place around water features like fountains and ponds. These plants will keep mosquitoes away from your space and protect you from itchy bites and harmful diseases.

If you would like to install or refurbish your water feature, make sure the water has some kind of movement through a pump. Place tall, dark green, weather resistant and fragrant Peppermint all around or in a large area close to the water to liven the spot and repel unwanted mosquitoes that will look for another place to lay their eggs, since Peppermint is highly toxic to larvae.

If you are looking for a splash of color, add pots with beautiful lavender. Not only will the pretty purple make your garden look lively and lift your spirit, but this aromatic plant is also very problematic for pesky mosquitoes, they do not like the smell and will fly away from it. You could also surround your deck with pots full of lavender to mark a social area free of the bothersome bloodsuckers.

Citronella, Rosemary, and Sage are some other options to fill up your garden beds. These are easy to maintain and very effective against flying pests. If your friends and family reunion is being raided by mosquitoes while you are trying to enjoy the sunset, which is when the bothersome insects are the hungriest, pull out some fresh Rosemary and burn it to let them know they are not invited for dinner.
